It stands for Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders. They are symptoms that affect women during pregnancy and the postpartum period. They make it hard to enjoy life and can affect overall functioning.

The perinatal period is from conception to 1 year after giving birth.

PPD affects as many as 1 out 7 women. 1 out of 10 new Dads are affected too (PSI, 2022)

When you book an appointment with Maternal Minded you will meet with a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP).

The primary role of a PMHNP is medication management. This doesn't mean that medication is always necessary. Many patients struggling with mental health reach out to establish a relationship with a provider and also gain an understanding of their diagnosis and symptoms. This allows them to become proactive in their care. Basic elements of therapy may be integrated into the appointment but patients will be referred to a licensed therapist for therapy services.
